I am a software developer too, and I don’t quite appreciate Chrome’s RAM usage. Depending on what kind of developer you are, 16GB RAM may not be enough.
Chrome can easily take up 4 GB after 2 hours of working. Safari on the other hand, is lightweight. So is Firefox. Brave is better at this, too — in case you need the latest web standards available. And you be be plugged in all the time, but there are other users that do not like the toll that Chrome has on their battery life, especially if they are travelling a lot.
For me, there is absolutely no reason to use Chrome, when there are alternatives such as those.
The only reason I appreciate chrome is that it’s a competitive benchmark for others to beat, hopefully one day.
